CLASS OF 1976
Cambridge, ON

Iain's Story

I left Cambridge February 1981 and married Teri Johnston, (youngest sister to Chris, Pat and Shelly Johnston) all GCI alum. Our first home was in Gatlinburg, TN. and shortly before our first anniversary Teri gave birth to our oldest son Drew. Drew was followed by two brothers Bryce and Cameron, who were both born in Florida. We currently live just outside of Orlando Fl but, intend to head north to South Carolina in the next year or two. We will then be close to Drew and his wife Karla and our first grandchild Isabella Michele who was born 20 Dec 2010. Teri is looking forward to having a little girl to spoil and dress up after living with boys for all these years. And if it were up to her we would be packing up and heading north tomorrow. Teri is a super Mom and has held down the home front while I have ran around with the United States Marine Corps for the last 29 yrs. Our two younger sons are also US Marines with Bryce having served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and Cameron who graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp in January 2010, currently serving in Afghanistan. I am currently stationed at Mac Dill Air Force Base in Tampa Fl. and next to my family my greatest joy is being a US Marine. It has given me an opportunity to tr...Expand for more
avel and do things I never thought I would. The friends I have made in the Corps are truly special, and as in the book "Band of Brothers" I can honestly say that I have served with heroes. We love living in the US and once or twice a year make it up to Cambridge to visit family and friends. All of our sons have spent summers in Algonquin learning to canoe and camp, and have great memories of their time there. One of the best parts for everyone on our visits to Canada is all the foods that we don't have access to here in the US, for the most part that would be chocolate. Before we leave Cambridge we make a special visit to COSTCO and stock up on boxes of chocolates, with many of our US friends looking forward to our homecoming. Unfortunately it only seems to last for a week or so, and then we are back to eating US chocolate. Cambridge was lots of fun and I have some wonderful memories of times their and friends that I made. Americans that see pictures from Teri and I of GCI always say "you went to school in a castle" I sometimes wonder about Americans. They love the pictures of Galt and for the few that have visited Canada they seem to forever say how friendly Canadians are and how clean Canada appears. Semper Fi, Iain
