Ginny's Story
After high school graduation, I attended D.A.V.T.I. (Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute) and enrolled in the Legal Secretarial program. While attending classes, I took the civil service exam along with everyone else in the class. I was rated in the upper 90 percentile and was approached by the U.S. Forest Service for a vacant position they were going to fill. I finished my schooling and received my certification in August of 1976 and then went on to work for the Forest Service in the Duluth office (which is the Superior National Forest's Headquarters) in a clerical position. (The Superior National Forest is the federal agency that manages the BWCAW for those of you who may/may not know.) I've held 4 different positions while employed with the F.S. (clerical, engineering tech....Expand for more
, cartographic tech., and currently as a Biological Science Technician with the GIS staff. I've been married three times during this time, I'm a mother of two sons with my first husband, I'm an avid gardener, love to create stain glass art, enjoy motorcycling with my husband and friends, and hope to retire next year. We have a beautiful Bull Mastiff and chocolate lab mix dog named Bella who definitely is spoiled and two beloved cats in their senior years.
Update: I retired from the Forest Service on March 31, 2015, and have adapted quite easily to the lifestyle change. Our senior cats have been gone for a couple of years now, but I adopted beautiful twin female tuxedo kittens last October who are litter mates. These two are quite a handful at times, but they are a hoot to watch.
