Currently living in Twentynine Palms, California where I retired after 20 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy. My wife and I are paid by the state to keep our developmentally disabled twin sons in their own home, where we each "work" 64 hours a week to enable them to live as independently as possible in their own home in the community. We are advocates for those with disabilities and their families and continue to blaze the trail for them, i.e. our sons are the only people so profoundly disabled living in their own home in 2 counties in Southern California. It's always a fight, but we've been fighting for services since they were born in 1990. We have 4 children including the twins. Janice, our oldest, currently lives in Bremerton, WA and has 5 children. Carolyn, who was a foster child and we adopted, lives in Yucca Valley, CA (about 20 miles from us) and has 6 children.
