Whitney's Story
Shortly after graduation I met my future husband, Karl Coffey (class of 1981). We married in Jan. 1984. We had two beautiful kids, Kurt and Emily. We divorced after 22 years together. After the separation and subsequent divorce, I decided to go back to school and finish that college degree that had eluded me for so long. So after 27 years, I walked across the stage of Florida Atlantic University with a BA in Elementary Education. It was a definite milestone for me. Then came a big change in my life.

tion that I was gay. I met my partner in January 2010. We've been together ever since. I moved to Indiana to be with her in June 2011. Kurt was already grown and out of the house for many years. Emily, who'd grown up in Okeechobee her entire life didn't want to move with me. She decided she wanted to stay and graduate in Okeechobee with her friends that she's gone to school with all her life. I understood this perfectly because I was a military brat and went to 13 schools during my life. I miss the kids everyday. I'm happy for the first time in a VERY long time.
