Gabriel's Story
Life
Hello everyone,
I guess I don't want to be descriptive here, but I'll tell you that I'm married, I have a young girl, and I work as Head of Technology in a really great company that allows me to have all the joys of a great career while allowing me to have a life, too.
I've traveled a lot in the last few years, which has been refreshing as I grew up in a sort-of bubble in the city of Los Angeles.
I still love music and I now play classical guitar with Latin, Flamenco, and Classical genres as my main concentration. I'm also an amateur writer and I am in the process of completing a 20-or-so chapter novel which I hope to turn into a screenplay someday.
What else? Oh yes, my wife and I have 2 really cute Siamese cats named Leyla and Moses.
Wanna know anything else or stay in touch? Well, give me a buzz......
School
A couple of the teachers that inspired me the most included Mrs. Browers of the English department. She believed in me so much and pushed me to excel in all levels of my studies. Also, I truly loved and respected our dearly missed Mr. Wisenburger of the Cross Country team who has since passed away. He had an immense and genuine love for his work and his runner kids. lot of love and appreciation but I wish I could talk to him now and tell him how he has had a very special place in my heart. Lastly, Mr. Beckman; who taught French during those years. He was a wonderfully colorful man. He was dedicated and kind to his students and he gave me a lot of appreciation and respect. He holds a special place in my heart.
Perspective
Belmont was a very convoluted time in my life, trying to define who I was while at the same time being a total stranger and foreigner of this land, having come from Mexico to be pushed into 9th grade and figure out mostly on my own about the customs and behaviors of kids in this country. I made a lot of mistakes and was laughed at and put to shame on countless occasions because of my lack of English language skills and my utter innocence and vulnerability. However, it gave me the chance to test myself as I've never since been tested; to plow through all my shortcomings and insecurities and come out on the other side feeling utterly accomplished and with the utmost confidence that I can deal with anything in my life.
"Age of Innocence" continues to be the thought that comes up in my mind whenever I think of my life while studying at Belmont High School.
