Arlene's Story

November 9, 2014 Sunday well, it has been a while since i wrote in here. i have to upgrade my membership to see who is around, and maybe reconnect with some old school friends. i am enjoying teaching my son with his science and socials, as i have always loved learning myself. also, i have rediscovered my love for text-books! Lol these books are invaluable to a parent who is helping in teaching their child. it is because all of the necessary curriculum that is absolutely needed for the grade is condensed for teacher. and for living in a new area, it has been four years to the date that i have been in home. it was tough to leave my hometown, which really isn't far from me now, but i am a bit of a recluse, so home grounds is very important to me. i love the sunsets i catch facing West, and still love my bird-watching, sketching in my weather journal, and working whenever i can get a break. my son is nearly as tall as me now at ten! he keeps me on my toes, and i have credited him to being my life-saver in bringing my attention to my health to take better care of myself. i enjoy seeing old school friends if i get a glimpse of some, or even coming across them in Facebook or Classmates. School If I could do it all over again... I would not have been addicted to approval. I would have spent more time on my studies and plans for a career vs trying to get attention and acceptance in all the wrong ways. (Carousing and Snaking it up [drinking]) I may have spent more time on the special people and family members in my life at that time. My happiest memory at Howe Sound was when they held P.E. out back at the pool. Plus hanging out near the side door where the portables were trying to get a glimpse of Ken (Hollywood) and my aunt working on their books. :-) The funniest memories were seeing all of the different folks hanging out at their daily posts near the radiators, sometimes chasing one another thru the gym doors or halls. LOL You know, I still dream about those halls! Holy, I hope I'm not the only one. Good memories always. The bus rides were great too. I laugh at myself today in how i spent so much time trying to put on makeup and fix hair while the bus jostled around. My lesson is that it i...Expand for more
s not always about me. lol A little person can sure teach you that there are certain priorities in life besides pampering oneself, or being kept distracted by trivial and nagging to-do-lists. There may be someone nearby who is just too shy to ask for help. They may need something important to sustain them in their day/ or just a little lift to help them through. My son has humbled me greatly, even more so than a prior illness. I thought my pets were my children! :-D They also taught me some valuable things before my child arrived. The animals make you think about their little needs>> (such as their diet, rest, and exercise! and Love:-D My first job was at Christiana Inn in Whistler, where I got paid $6.50 an hr. at first to Chambermaid and help in the Hotel's bar-cleanup. What I remember most about it was that the hotel was in a very pretty site. It was situated on the Lake. I loved spending the night there after a long day of work so I could have my very own room! :-) Brenda and I use to hitch rides up there without ever worrying about danger except for road conditions permitting. We never skied?. :-o The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jaimee Suter, because I really miss her and wonder where she ended up going and what she is doing now. I last got together with her for dinner at the Bayside Room in English Bay. We walked up Denman to get our buses and I never saw her again? I hope her and I can walk down the halls of Howe Sound together and go out back to see if the swimming pool is still there where we met in P.E.. My best friend would tell you I'm a lot of fun, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as very serious. In 10 years, I hope to be doing very well in my career. I'm going to get there by working very very hard at it. My oldest friend was Cindy George. We met at our homes that were side-by-side on West First Street in North Vancouver. We met when we were 1 and 2 I believe. Also, I use to run to the parish down the block called St.Paul's to play ring-around-the-rosie and London Bridges with the Sisters there. It was fun. :-) Cindy and I use to play with our teddy bears out in the back garden and run for the ice cream wagon.
