Aaron's Story

Life Aaron Hendriks was a great and wonderful man that was kind and helpful to all. He was a great father and husband as well. He had no reservations about his life and met every goal that he had. He had a great family, a great job, he received his degree in MIS he was able to retire at a young age and travel to all of his dream destinations. I do hope that my eulogy is stated like this as this is what I dream of at this point in my life. I see my life a journey that is made of choices. I used to ready choose your own adventure books when I was a child and I do believe that this is the way that we live our lives. I see my live really taking shape in High school around the same time that I started working. I attended High School in Costa Mesa, CA. This was a far cry from where I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I had moved to CA when I was 5 so I had always known school in CA. I was the typical Jock in school. I lettered on the Cross county team in the 1st 2 months of School and also in Track and Field in the second part of the year. I also was in the advanced English courses at school and was performing great there as well. I was struggling in Math but I was getting good grades overall. I did not take school terribly seriously as I was able to get good grades without much work. I look back at this and see that I made several mistakes at this time because of this lack of a work ethic. I focused all of my energy on exercising and not academics. I wish that I had more of an equal percentage but I was young and the counsellors did not see what I was doing. I kept this all through school but it got worse as I was able to do more on my own. At fifteen I started working at the local Ice skating rink. I know that you are thinking “Ice Skating in So Cal”, but I was lucky in that it was a fad and the rink was right across the street from our apartments. Again this was so that I could skate for free and get more exercise. I was running every day and skating 5-7 days a we...Expand for more
ek including Hockey twice a week. After the season was over I stopped working there. The translation to this is that I was not very focused at my job as it was lousy so I did not do my best and eventually the manager stopped scheduling me. At this time I was sixteen so I could drive so I got a Job as a lot boy at a local Auto body shop. I was always around shops as a boy since my grand father worked at a Car dealer and I hung around there a lot in the summers. This was a comfortable environment and very hard work. I learned quite a bit from my boss and I could rely on him for very honest feedback. Sometimes this was very loud and full of superlatives. I was able to expand and learn new duties as the owner trusted me more. I eventually was able to drive the Flatbed tow truck as well. I kept this job until my senior year. At this time I had fostered a great relationship with a friend Steve and his family had a business at the beach so I could not resist this. I spent too much time at the beach my senior year. I did not need many courses to fulfill my school credits so I took a weightlifting course in the morning that I could do on the way back from dropping off my mom at work so that I could have the car. I then went home and skipped a class that I did not need and went back to school at 10 and then left again at lunch and went to the beach to lay in the sun and go for a run. I then had an occupational course that I went to in the afternoon for being a personal trainer at a gym. So I then worked out for another 2 hours. At the end of the year I graduated out of High school and into rebellion. I had never stayed in CA for a summer and I had to at this time. I purchased a Motor cycle and found a new group to be a member of every night down at the Beach. We hung out and cruised for girls every night. I did meet a woman that I eventually had a several year relationship with at a later time. I also did some crazy things on that bike and eventually, at the end of the summe
