Abe's Story

I was in the band at Ray. My best friend was Dale Hope. After H.S., I attended University of Corpus Christi. After UCC converted to an upper level college, I attended Del Mar, but I did not finish. I married Kathi Lord in 1975 and we have two fine kids together, and now we have one grand daughter who is 21. Time flies. In 1977, I bought my first motorcycle, a Yamaha 650 twin. Also in 1977, I joined the Navy and was stationed at NAS Glenview, IL, near Chicago. After that, I was stationed on the USS Holland, an FBM submarine tender in Holy Loch, Scotland. Our daughter was born there in 1980.. I got out of the Navy in 1981 and began working at CCAD as a sheet metal helper WG-05 in 1982. In 1983, I was accepted into the Supply Management Intern Program at Red River Army Depot, at the Army Intern Training Center. I graduated in 1984. Also in 1984, I bought my first Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. Kathi and I enjoyed riding it all over Texas. I rode it to a couple of training classes in Illinois and Virginia. We had that bike for 26 years. I worked as a supply systems analyst at CCAD until 1988, when I received a promotion to GS-11 distribution facilities specialist. In 1992, the CCAD Supply Department was transferred to Defense Logistics Agency. I went with it. In 1993, after attending classes at Corpus Christi State University, then Texas A&M Corpus Christi, I earned my BA in Business. It only took 21 years. In 1998, I accepted a promotion to GS-12 Storage Specialist with the DLA Distribution HQ in New Cumberland PA, so we moved to PA. As a Storage Specialist at HQ, I travelled to D...Expand for more
LA Distribution Centers in the US, Europe and Asia. In 2002, I was promoted to GS-13, Storage Team Leader and DLA Storage Program Manager. Around this time, Kathi and I started riding our motorcycle with friends who all rode Harleys. We enjoyed rides to Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, New York, Maryland, and Niagara Falls, Canada. In 2008, I accepted a lateral transfer to the DLA Distribution Base Realignment and Closure Office. I served as the BRAC Program Manager for the North-East Region. In 2010, Kathi and I moved back to Corpus Christi from PA. I performed my BRAC duties from the DLA office at NAS Corpus Christi. Mostly I worked on-line or over the phone but I was required to travel often to HQ and to the distribution centers in my region. In 2011, after successfully completing all BRAC duties, the BRAC Office closed down and I accepted a lateral transfer to the DLA Distribution Planning Directorate, where I served as the Project Planning Officer for the Navy Warehouse Transfer Program. I travelled to several Navy sites within the U.S. that were transferring to DLA, where I developed projects and processes to improve distribution operations and reduce costs. In 2013, I retired from DLA and began working part time on my family's ranch in Live Oak County. In 2014, I became ranch foreman after my step-father passed away. Kathi and I enjoy travel and have often travelled around the Texas hill country with friends from other states. We have also taken three month-long road trips in 2015, 2019, and 2022 to explore National Parks, see the country, and to visit friends and family.
