Glenn's Story
I spent about 22 years working in Showbiz, working on music and the movies (was even in one or two). I went to college for the "safe route", and did a lot of fun things, and some not so fun things. About 10 years ago, a job opportunity came my way to work in telecommunications; I have never regretted it one day! Who would have thought the really creative kid would have enjoyed a "stayed" job in the real world? I never would have guessed it.
My friendships in Hollywood remain good and strong, and they even still take my calls. But, do I regret leaving that business to do something else? I really don't hesistate when I say, "NO". I had my fun, I had the glamour, and I made the friends. But, when it came right down to it, I wasn't the "show biz type"; I am simply someone with talent that God gave me, and use it every day. Do I still sing, play and arrange when asked? ABSOLUTELY! I have a nephew who is now persuing that dream, and it is because of all the pitfalls and lessons I learned, he's not getting burned in the process. He's done some commercials, and some TV work, done some movies, and I do hope he finds success in what he's doing; if not, at least he tried. That's how I feel --- I tried, and didn't fail; it simply wasn't for me. It's a business where people never are told, "No...Expand for more
"; how real is that in this life, huh?!
As far as life goes, I remain single and still haven't met "the one". I live in a nice place, and finally moved from my cruddy apartment (which I lived in for 21 years). I enjoy my life, and I have never once let my perils and the like in show biz (or other industries) affect my love for the Almighty and his Son. They've never foresaken me, nor will I foresake them. I was raised in the Christian faith, and I thank my Dad for the blessings that has given me every single day.
It is because of that faith that I remain a good guy, and a nice guy. I'm told often that I'm too nice to people, and I believe what goes around comes around. Having integrity is something that you can never have too much of, and being a good person comes back ten-fold ever time.
I have a very close friend who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's (advanced) at age 50; it's hard to see happen to such a brilliant woman. In that instance, I thank God for every day that I'm here and for the life I lead. In 2001, I was nearly dead from pneumonia and told to write my will; I guess I proved them wrong. That's why I feel much of the way I do today.
Treat each day as a gift; you never know what's around the corner. Feel free to talk with me anytime; I'm a genuinely nice person.
