Adam's Story
UPDATE 25 SEPT 2016
Went to 50th High School reunion this weekend. Met a lot of old friends. The one thing I didn't do was apologize to those that I had wronged in the past. Then again, time heals all wounds, unless they are too deep to heal.
How about the great job the reunion committee did putting this one together. Wish I had photographed the two placards showing members of our group who had passed away. Maybe I can get copies from those who did. Meeting Mr. Breitler was a very pleasant surprise. Called him the next day. He suggested that rather than sitting around all day watching television, I should teach at the local university. Am I ready to take on that challenge, considering I have never held a teaching position? Hell, my son did this kind of work for years! If you don't make the effort, you won't find out if you can do it!
The reunion started me thinking about what I had accomplished in my 69 years on this planet, and to be blunt, it hasn't been very much. Sure, I graduated college and graduate school, made a relatively good living for over 30 years, but what will be my legacy? My son, my nieces and nephews? Exactly what have I done to make the world a better and safer place?
Will come back here when I have a better answer.

UPDATE 14MAY2011
Time flies! It is easy to lose sight of your fondest goals, what with the wants and needs of your loved ones. Here is a list of things I haven't done that I still would like to do:
1. Obtain pilot's license
2. Take cruise around the world
3. Go sailing in the Carribean
4. Drive a race car
5. Throw out the first baseball at a major league baseball game.
6. Ride in a submarine under the North Pole.
7. Return to my city of birth - Geneva Switzerland and live there for a month
8. Live in Birmingham, England for a month to visit my mother's family.
9. Hold a family reunion for all my relatives - gather them from around the world for an awsome get-together.
10. Work out and get myself into the greatest physical condition of my life.

UPDATE 10 February 2011
Next up, completing taxes and getting first cases off my docket (24 last count). Have over 33 weeks to get'er done. Still "standing in the place where I live". Best wishes to all my friends! Live long and prosper.

UPDATE 19 April 2010
Have a long to do list, but somehow I know I will get them all done. Planning for summer vacation. Have a presidential suite in Atlantic City for July. Have some buyers for that week. The money could come in handy to offset expenses (about $3,000). Still have two weeks with Resorts Condominium International (RCI) to use. Must claim them no earlier than 3 months prior to travel. If I get one of these, then I will sell the Atlantic City week (next to the Trump Taj Mahal Casino). Watched a boxing match televised from Atlantic City last night. Surprise upset. Entertained idea of getting a ringside seat. Wife not too enthusiastic.

UPDATE 3 April 2008
I have become adept at my new job. I now take the bus and use mass transit most of the time. Doing my part to keep the planet green. I enjoy the comraderie on mass transit.
Finished taxes. Now can relax for a while.

UPDATES 22 Jan 2008
One of our cats died. My wife took it hard, but I
was the one who had to bury him in the back yard.
My son will graduate with a Masters degree this
spring, and with luck, I will survive at my present
position for the next six months for a total of
a year on the job.
UPDATE 8/10/2007
It's official. I am once again working full time with full benefits. I enjoy the work I am doing because it is so different from anything I have previously done.
======...Expand for more
=================================================
Well, we still have the two cats. My son graduated with two undergraduate degrees, and is now in graduate school. He moved away, but is still socking it to us with the bills.
I completed my MBA degree two years ago, and since that time, it has been more difficult getting work in my given profession. If you are in need of a Software Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Systems Analyst, I am your man! Here is my background:
I spent the past 8 years as a software engineer working in Java, C, C , Lotus Domino, Lotus Script, and as a Network Manager. I have an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the District of Columbia, and two years of Masters of Electrical Engineering work from George Washington University. Over my career, I managed my own LASER laboratory for three years; designed a fiber optic interfacility link for satellite communications stations; wrote test plans and procedures for multiplexers, central telephone switching systems, and large scale Unix network systems; and built a six-rack test bed to emulate a client's existing network system for testing transition from IPv4 (the current Internet) to IPv6 (a protocol that is already in wide use in China, Japan, and much of the Far and Middle East.
I took karate overseas in Okinawa Japan along with SCUBA diving (PADI certified). At one time, I owned three motorcycles, one of which could beat a Datsun 280 Z off the line, leaving it at least a quarter mile behind within the first second. I have done a lot of rock climbing, including cave exploring in Pennsylvania.
I am currently into swimming, gardening, and Billy Blanks Boot Camp DVD's. I also put out bird seed. We often get bluejays, robins, cardinals, crows, sparrows, and the occasional bird I cannot recognize. It is great entertainment for the cats, and they rid the garden of insect pests. The bird seed attracts squirrels too. Last time, I counted eight in the back yard! I sometimes throw water at them, but mostly it is in fun, and they always come back. Actually, I don't think the birds would come to the feeders if they didn't see the squirrels already there.
When I can afford it (when my son finally gets his PhD), I am going for a large screen TV. I enjoy ON DEMAND, because I can select exercise videos. Verizon is a bit skimpy here, and Comcast does a much better job, but I already called Verizon, and anticipate that that will soon change.
I write poetry and the occasional short story, but have not made recent attempts to publish. That's probably because I attempted to publish when I was much younger with no success. Some of the best writers funded their own publishing efforts. You have to believe in yourself to do it, but nowdays all you need is a website, and you can upload the entire manuscript! Just let people have the web address, and presto, you are published!
Workplace
My new job is tough, but I enjoy what I am doing, and that makes all the difference. I imagine my new job as a plateau or mesa in the mid-west. As a new employee, I am climbing the steep grade in order to get to the higher flat ground. Once I have completed the climb, I will be on the plateau and will be able to get around a lot easier. So it is with any new job. Once you have learned it, it becomes easier to do.
Military
I attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas for six weeks. I worked hard and graduated after six weeks and was assigned to Alexandria, Louisiana for eighteen months. I developed the philosophy that anywhere I lived was my home, and that family was those who I lived with daily.
===========================
I always wanted to be a astronaut when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a cool idea. As it turns out, they were right.
