Ronald's Story
WOW-- life has changed a lot since I last updated. 5 Dec 2020 and it has been one heck of a year. I am certainly ready to move forward. We now live just south of Boston and look after my 94 yo mother-in-law though she takes care of herself except she finally gave up driving. I am on Facebook and accept friends request. I have had a good number of people visit my page here on Classmates and though I do not normally comment or respond I do remember most. Anyone wanting to visit the Boston area give me a shout and I can pass along good info. Same for Washington DC as we lived just outside of DC in MD for about 34 years. Still traveling--when we can and still diving. CEO of Dive Army. Look us up on FB or the web divearmy, com to see some of my/our adventures..
Looking back--what a life: Attended three different high schools and had wonderful friends at each and built memories that have survived the years. I spent 28 years in the Navy and retired Commander in 1993. Have been to all 50 states and ALL US territories; five continents and over 50 countries. Bypassed the Vietnam war but served twice in the Persian Gulf. Taught high school for three years BUT that was more of a war zone than was the Persian Gulf. Married twice and had four wonderful sons. Going forward--my wife of 33 years retired 2 Sept 2011. Her mother lives in Boston and we will spend quite a bit of time looking after her. We have a son that lives on Guam (Wildlife Biologist); two sons in CA (one 20 years Navy and the other a Marine Biologist and SCUBA Instructor); and a son in MD (Adventure Sports Program Manager) and three grand-daughters. We are headed to the sixth Continent (Australia) and 7th (Antarctica). I SCUBA Dive as does three of our sons along with our 19 year old granddaughter, enjoy boating and sailing, camping, hiking and fishing--especially deep sea for the BIG ones. We purchased a motor home this past year ...Expand for more
and plan to take to the open road this coming year. There is a LOT of America that we still want to see and places to revisit. Some of the things on our BUCKET LIST are: celebrate the fall Equinox in Chichen Itza this year as it is the end of the Mayan Long Period in December; spend a couple of weeks in Fairbanks in March during the Spring Equinox and experience the Northern Lights; travel to Egypt and visit the great pyramids, cruise the Nile; tour the slot canyons of the south west; clarify and document my Cherokee heritage; and a number of other things. If you want to get in touch please do NOT hesitate. Life is somehow getting shorter.
Well the world has changed some since I first wrote. Our son NO longer lives on Guam but now lives in Corpus Christi, TX and works for the Department of Naval as a Wildlife Biologist. Our son, the Marine Biologist and SCUBA Instructor, now lives in Homestead, FL and works in Key Largo. He is on his way to the Dominican Republic in June to become a PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) Course Director so then he will be teaching people to become SCUBA Instructors. His girl friend is also a SCUBA Instructor and is going to school to also become a Marine Biologist. Our other sons still live in CA (though he is now retired from the Navy) and the youngest in western MD.
We did go to Chichen Itza for the spring equinox BUT did NOT get to see the serpent on the temple as it was overcast and rainy that day so we will have to go back again. For now I am working on a family trip to Alaska for next March for a week to hopefully see and enjoy the northern lights or Aurora Borealis.
I still have NOT made it to a reunion which is in some ways regretful. And, still have a lot to do and a lot of places to go.
I am grateful that I have been able to live as long as I have, I mourn the passing of classmates and friends.
