Addison's Story
Addison Hitchcock founder of The Shelby Harmonica Players Society - SHARPS in 1991. This is a local club in Alabaster, AL about 30 miles south of Birmingham. This was the club which organized the Heart Of The South Harmonica Music Festival in 2006 It was an exciting three days attended by over 350 harmonica enthusiasts. Fourteen of America's top harmonica artists and groups performed and taught at this musical extravaganza. The roster of performers included Charlie McCoy, Al & Judy Smith, Peter "MadCat" Ruth, Jon Gindick, Joe Filisko, The Society Boys, The Harmonica Masters and many others.
Addison's favorite music when in high school was Jerry Murad's Harmonicats and particularly "The Harmonicats Play The Classics". e last last twenty years but has usually involved four or more players.
When the TopCats' chord player, moved out of town the Chordet Harmonica was discovered for accompaniment. For over ten years the Chordet has been Addison's favored and often only instrument being played daily. Because the Chordet is limited to just three major keys, he designed and had his friend Paul Cox build the first Chordet-48. His Chordet-48 is the only such instrument in the world actually consistent with the design of Cham-Ber Huang's original Chordet. The Chordet-48 Paul Cox built is considerably lighter than any commercially available 48-chord instruments. The decreased weight is due to design and materials used for construction.
Addison has taught high school math (Algebra through Calculus) for over 30 years but has always been employed as a vocalist and director of choirs and groups in his local church. Playing and teaching the fun of making music with the harmonica has also been an important avocation.
