Adrian James:  

Adrian Vincent James is a dancer, actor, choreographer, director and educator with over thirty-five years of diversified experience in the fields of performing arts and education with exposure to multiple national and international audiences. His objective is to empower students through participation in the performing arts in order to physically, emotionally, intellectually and aesthetically develop their creative talent, leadership skills, self-esteem, and cultural awareness. A native Washingtonian, he began his artistic development under the guidance of Mike Malone and Peggy Cooper Cafritz at George Washington University's Workshop for Careers in the Arts in 1970. After a dance career with the Capitol Ballet, La Verne Reed Dancers, The Eglevsky Ballet and The Houston Ballet, where he became distinguished as the first African American dancer employed, Adrian, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Drama from Howard University with a concentration in directing and a Master of Arts degree in Performing Arts: Dance from the American University. As an artist and scholar, Adrian has taught at Howard University, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the District of Columbia and Prince George's County School Systems, the District of Columbia Recreation Department, the Mayor's Summer Arts Workshop, and various artistic, civic and social organization throughout the country. His theatrical credits include THE WIZ, DREAMGIRLS, AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’, PURLIE, DON’T BOTHER ME I CAN’T COPE, EQUUS, THE WINTER’S TALE, A CHORUS LINE, ANTIGONE, WORKING, A CHORUS LINE and PEACE CHILD.
