Aida's Story
Hi everybody,
My name is Juliet Cornejo Wilson, on my High School records, my name shows as Aida Cornejo. Even though I was there for the last semester of my senior year, I have great memories that I will never forget! I was born and raised in Mexico City and I moved to Mobile in the winter of 1984. At the time, I spoke and understood very little English and for the first month, I was allowed to sit in class and learn the language. I remember being in this American Government class and the teacher Mr. Palmer (I think that was his name) was teaching the class, and as he was teaching, he looked at me and I remember thinking: If you only knew that I have no idea what are you talking about! Every morning was a challenge for me. First, I could never open my locker, and usually somebody would help me out. Then I would get lost in the hallways ...Expand for more
trying to find my classroom and by the time I get there I was late. Consequently, I was in detention quite often.
Even though I got frustrated at times, there was always somebody nice to help me. I met great people and developed good friendships. Soon I graduated with the class of 1985. The following year I moved to Florida. I'm presently living in Lake Mary, Florida and married for fifteen years. I can't believe that 25 years have gone by. I am still learning the English language, and I am getting much better. Davidson High will always have a very special place in my heart and so are the people that I interacted with. Everybody was very friendly and helpful, and I will never forget that.
If you remember me, I would love to hear from you. Maybe you remember me from detention LOL!! Have a wonderful day and hope to hear from you!
Julie
