Alan's Story

Life Fellow Classmates, Well it has been another five years, making it 30 since we walked the halls of Bucyrus High. I am sure time has gone by at different speeds for each of us. I have experienced a few years that just crawled by and many that passed with lightning speed. I hope this letter finds you and yours in good health and happiness. Hopefully you can attend this year. This will be a casual, come as we are, fun get together. Nothing too fancy, just good food, good music, and great company with many stories to be told and retold. Some of these high school memories get a little better with every year that passes, not that any of us would embellish an already great story. If you and or your spouse/guest want to golf make sure you sign up. We really had a blast five years ago. I know my group saw parts of the country club that were not exactly designed for playing golf. Valleyview is one of the better public courses in the area. Even if you are a hacker like me, sign up. This will be a scramble format, so someone on your team should be able to clear that water hazard or stay out of the trees. Laughing at each other, during and after the round, however, is strictly prohibited this year. Whether you can attend or not, please send us an update on your life. Handwritten is fine. Example: I am happily and blissfully married to my wife Melinda (she will be proofing this). Jessica is 25 and is married with her first child on the way (this does not make us grandparents by the way!). She teaches preschool and special needs children in Ada, Ohio. Mallory is 21 and has completed 3 years of college and is trying to find her niche. Jared is 22 and is in the same fleet as Mallory, just in a different ship. Daniel, our youngest, is 18 and loves to farm and is quite the redneck with a big 4wheel drive and matching belt buckle. We almost got to experience the “empty nest syndrome” this spring as Daniel left home for work ...Expand for more
on a combine crew out west for 6 months. But, 2 weeks prior, my Dad(now 84) suffered a stroke. I have since been in the home health care business pretty much 24/7. Now that he is recovered and I can leave him alone more, our son Jared has returned to the nest and so has Daniel with their ventures not working out for now. Oh well, we probably would have killed each other if alone too long. Dad and I sold the old service station 2 years ago. He’s been resting and I’ve been…uh, I don’t really know what I’ve been for sure. I know I’ve drilled a lot of holes in a lot of bowling balls and almost thought I could make this profession(yes this does require some skill and pays a little) work, until both local bowling centers went belly up this summer. Now I guess I am in the same fleet/different boat as my searching kids. Thank God, and I do, for my wife and her very successful tax prep and accounting practice. My wife and I enjoy our horses and trail riding, two dogs, and our occasional bike trip(she rides her own Harley). I still have my Camaros from high school and hit an occasional car show. We normally spend many weekends at our cabin in Pennsylvania rafting, loafing, quad riding, loafing, bicycling, and loafing. Life has been tough at times, but the laughs have been priceless. Call me anytime: E-mail: or snail mail me Your response can be like this or as simple as: wife______, children_______, occupation______, etc. But it would be great to get an e-mail contact for you of some sort for the future. If anyone is good with the techy stuff I think it would be great to get a web page going. Contacting would be fast, address changes easier, and future planning a little more collective. I have started a reunion page here also. My contact info must be acquired through individual contact as I can not post it here. Hope to see you this year, and once again make sure we have contact info for you on file. Al Garvin
