Alan's Story

Hi All: It is hard to believe just how much time has passed already. I left school (and Storm Brothers) mid year in 1983 in the persuit of leisure next to the ocean, which I still love. A better choice would have been to finish out the school year as I promptly lost contact with most everyone I knew in Annapolis! In the fall of 83 I landed at Salisbury State College (now Salisbury University) and reaquainted with a number of Panthers including Mona Pokotilow, Ken Meekins, and Lori Cullinane. I majored in Physics/Microelectronics with a minor in "social" studies. The first day of my Junior year I met Debbie Thompson from Harford County and my mediocre academic career bloomed into one of excellence. Debbie and I both landed graduate assistanceships at the Perdue School of Business at SU and after finishing our MBA were married in 89. We decided to stay in Salisbury to raise our family. Debbie taught at the college for a few years and now is a Regional Manager for PNC Bank celebrating her 16th anniversary there in 08. I worked short stints for Executone Information Systems and Sears Mortgage Corporation until Zack was born in 94 when I became a full time dad. I opened Scoops! Ice Cream Cakes and Coffee in 94 (featured in a Washington Post Travel Section article) and Zack became a local celebrity known as "the kid in the ice cream shop." This was a fantastic time in my life filled with hard work and great memories. Justin was born in 98 and Scoops! was sold in 2000 so I could focus more on the boys (scouts/sports/music...) and in support of Debbie's career. Since 20...Expand for more
00 I have also spent some time doing commerical kitchen design and running a small virtual business from my home office. Somewhere in there I also managed to serve a term on the board of directors of the local chamber of commerce, the executive board of the local scouting organization, class agent for SU "87" (Go Gulls!!!) and I am a two gallon donor with the local blood bank. I had no idea how much I would end up missing my 83 classmates. I have had a lot of time to reflect on who I was from 80 to 83 and how much time and opportunity I wasted as a young man. If I had spent as much time being focused on learning as I did being jealous and rude I could have been so much more so much earlier in my life. That's my only regret and to the many of whom I was was so rude, please accept my apology! OK - therapy time is over! Can't wait to see you all! I have not been in contact with and would love to hear from (not a complete list - please do not be offended if you are not on it and should be): Phyllis Arther - West Annapolis School Nancy Bornstein - I'm sending out an SOS... Mike Cox - WAS Bobby Cress - gave me stiches in my lip Bud Duckett - all around good guy Kurt Gastrock - $MM smile Karl Goldstein - pass the fries! Kris Kotowski - great typing buddy Penny McWilliams - WAS Pinakin Patel - One of the Hero's of DC Clayton Quaintance - WAS Missy Riley - WAS Joanna Ruddle - put the "super" in superlative Eddie Sagel Erica Solomon - r u still on the West Coast? Ted Veazy - Captain of DC Comando Team Ruth Wyatt - where did you go?? Go Panthers!!! Keep in touch, Alan
