Alan's Story
I moved down here from Detroit,the schools there were bad, I had to stay with my sister and her family in Mont Clair. The White Oak staff told me I needed another english class to fill the requirements for NC so I was put in the 10th grade and had to go to summer school and then I was a senior the following year...so most of my friends were juniors. That's one of the reasons I never went to any of the reunions.
I learned to skate and surf the first summer I was here and loved the care free lifestlye. I tore my knee up pretty good skating the empty Counrty Club pool when I was 21 and went back to school at Coastal Com...Expand for more
m. College. I wasn't very successful there and I droppped out quite a few times (the math kicked my butt). I played on the tennis team there and was pretty good. I meet a flipinia ( my future wife) who talked me into going back. I was only 2 classes away for a degree (not the science degree I wanted) so I finally finished in '93. After a few bad relationships I finally settled down in '97. I still surf and on occasion skateboard, but no more empty pools. I have been working on Camp Lejeune since high school so that's about 32 yrs now. I stayed friends with many people from White Oak and still hang out with them today.
