Alan's Story
Our two beautiful daughters are married w/children. Becky lives in Athens, GA where she is on the faculty at UGA. After graduating Cornell she took off for the Alaskan wilderness (Dutch Harbor and Kodiak). When she came to her senses she earned her Ph. D. at Vanderbilt. She stayed with the SEC and upgraded her football team, but not baseball (Vandy won the college world series). She has a 16 month old boy, Oliver Henry Betz.
Katie, the younger, lives in LA with her banker husband, her 5 year old princess, Sophia Grace, and 2 year old Matthew Ari. Katie graduated from Villanova (her husband is a Domer) and is a certified special education teacher. Katie is Rodeo Drive and Becky can survive on nuts and berries in the wilderness.
Beth-Ann is a family practice doc in Bucksport, Maine near our home across from Acadia Nat'l Park. A word about my life-long friend, John Goff, is appropriate here. Jake built our beautiful home in Maine He may not be able to hit a major league fastball as he once could, but he is most definitely an artiste with a saw and a hammer. He has been my mentor and life coach all these many years--the latter whether I liked it or not. I am grateful for his enduring friendship.
If I had a voice like Eddie Vedder's I might have risen above the work-a-day grind of the law. I can sing like a frog, as the song goes, but never on key. So I was consigned to the ordinary life. I started out in the law as a federal prosecutor in Philadelphia after which I went into priv...Expand for more
ate practice in Philadelphia and New York City. For the last 10 years I have been a trial lawyer with the SEC's Division of Enforcement in Washington, DC. I have recently returned to private practice as a partner resident in Blank Rome's DC office located in The Watergate, an address well-known to our generation. I also teach securities enforcement courses at the Georgetown University Law Center.
I am an instrument rated pilot and own a single engine plane. I combine my passion for aviation with my abiding affection for dogs by flying abused animals rescued from quick kill facilities in the south to foster or permanent homes up and down the I-95 corridor. Brings me a lot of joy. I get far more from the dogs than I give to them. I posted some pics on my profile page.
Nostalgia burnishes memories. At least that is how it has been for me. During those four important years that began 5 decades ago most of us had experiences that if we could live them over we would, only this time with the compassion and sensitivity that comes with having lived life longer than 17 years. I certainly had my share. But there are no do-overs of the kind I am describing. There is only forgiveness. I hope those occasional bumps in the road most of us experienced in high school have receded for all and only the good memories remain. They have for me--except I still can't get Norm Chazin to reply to my emails, which is kind of a bummer.
Congratulations to the Class of 1964 and my best wishes to you all.
