Alan's Story

After graduating from Johnson High School in St. Paul, MN, I attended the University of Minnesota to study Electrical Engineering. While there I joined the Navy ROTC program. I graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and received a commission as an Ensign in the Navy. After basic training as a Surface Warfare Officer, I served in various jobs ashore and afloat, including two tours as Chief Engineer (think Scotty on the original Star Trek) on both a frigate and a cruiser homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. ocated at what is now called BAE Systems in Fridley, MN. I also joined the Navy Reserve, and retired from the reserves 9 years ago after 13 years (25 years total) there. I am still working for the Department of Defense as a civilian, but will be changing offices from Fridley to Bloomingon, MN when I return from a 6-month tour in Iraq (June - December 2008). Both my wife Debra and I are on our second marriage. Our blended family consists of 6 children that range in age from 19 - 30. My olded son, Daniel and his wife Jill are expecting to make me a grandfather (for the first time) in October of 2008. Well, that's my basic story, and I'm sticking to it!
