Alan's Story
Graduated in 65, shortly thereafter moved to New York City and went to school and worked for several years. While on vacation I met my future wife who was visiting Oregon and was from West Texas. I moved back to Oregon in 71 and we've been married for over 50 years. I was fortunate and married the nicest person I ever met and shes put up with me for all these years. While in school, my father abandoned my mother and my younger brother and sister, so I worked a lot after school and on weekends to help out and was not very social. I wasn't in clubs, or school activities to speak of, just worked and I didn't even show up for my graduation ceremony. Just the way it was in those days. But as soon as I had the opportunity to leave the area and start my life an opportunity opened up on the East Coast and I took it and never looked back.
Never did get my degree but was able to start a business here in town, NorthWest Insulators, and NW Insulation Removal Co. After many years I sold it to a friend and its still in operati...Expand for more
on today. I am retired just outside of Salem with my wife. My daughter and her daughter live in Salem and my son and his family have a business in Bend, Oregon where they have a home.
Life has been good but like everyone, it hasn't been perfect. But we traveled a lot mainly throughout most of the states, Canada, Mexico, and my favorite...Alaska. Later on in life we spent a lot of time in Hawaii in the various islands and have many friends there. We used to go every 8 months and just hang out with them, and its been great. We also made it to several Caribbean Islands and Florida where friends are retired.
Now my wife has been ill and I care for her with the help of my daughter and granddaughter. I'm glad we traveled when we were younger since our travels are restricted now. Good advice, you can always make more money but you cant buy more time, so do whatever you want to do as soon as you can, before something happens and changes your plans and future.
Wish the best for all of you. Take care.
