Alan's Story
Well, I spent 26+ years in the Air Force and still did not discover what I wanted to be when I grew up. However, I did have an interesting and fulfilling career where I had quite the variety of jobs from electronics maintenance, instructor, personnel (HR), and more. I had the pleasure to visit many countries to include Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia and a large portion of Canada. My best assignment was 7 months in Prague helping the Czech Ministry of Defence prepare to enter NATO. I finally retired in 2002.
Because I am a glutton for punishment, I took a job back with the US Government. I worked in acquisitions for the Department of the Air Force in Cheyenne, WY. I started as a contract administrator ...Expand for more
and transitioned to a procurement analyst. I crunched the data into something meaningful for management or at least what they thought was meaningful. I was also the system administrator for the computer systems in our building. As a result of my government employment, I have been in all 50 states and DC, except one. The only one you cannot drive to...Hawaii.
I am working on a doctorate degree and decided to stop working full-time while in the dissertation phase of the program. I was an adjunct instructor for the local community college and a career college where I taught general education courses as well as computer related classes.
I am now the Associate Dean of Education for the local career college campus as well as continuing to teach.
