Alan's Story
Twenty years...
After coming very close to joining the Marine Corps just out of high school, I spent a few years slacking while going to NOVA on and off.
I got a big break when fellow alumni Chris Mitton's dad hired me to do programming work at VSE Corp where I eventually transitioned to systems administrator.
I spent more than ten years as a sysadmin for companies as big as Fannie Mae and as small as one where I was one of the first couple employees.
During those years in IT I realized something was missing. I was making lots of money and living quite well, and I was feeling grateful for my fortunes and sought to use it to help people.

I volunteered for Wesley Clark's Presidential campaign on election day 2003. So my five year anniversary in politics is coming up this November. I'm partly to blame for all the mail, calls, and knocks at the door Virginians will see this year as residents of a battleground state. I have done calling, knocking, mailing, polling, organizing and driving
for Governor Tim Kaine, Senator Jim Webb, state Senator George Barker and the man we hope will unseat Dave "Abuser Fees" Albo next year; Greg Werkheiser.
I'm currently working part time at the pantry/foodbank of the Lorton Community Action Center, helping my community as the recording secretary of the South County Federation and on my
HOA, and spending lots of time volunteering at an Obama campaign office on Route 1 just north of Fort Belvoir.
