Alan's Story
While still at Cal-Hi I started working at the Alpha Beta on Colima and Whittier Blvd as first a bagger ,then a clerk, and progressed until I reached the position of President of American Stores, the Parent company of Alpha Beta. At the time we had 1800 stores and annual revenue was 22 Billion. I retired at 52 in 1993 and went on the road to several companies and countries.Three years in Saudi Arabia (working for H.R.H.Prince AlWaleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz. Built the #1 Supermarket chain in Saudi. After Osama bin Laden bombed me twice, I left for the U.S. and spent 4 years helping Flying J with their Travel Plaza's and ran all 188 Restaurants. 2001 found me in Indonesia as CEO of supermarket Chain Matahari the # one retailer in Indonesia. ed me to open Hypermarkets for them. I designed and built 3. now the most sucessful supermarkets in Singapore. During the introduction of WTO in China I worked on issues of the Independent Supermarket retailer and how to bring them to world standards and best practices . After 4 years of helping several retailers I joined a company as COO in mid 2008. Daqing Qingkelong Chain Commerce & Trade wants to be the #1 Multi Format retailer in Northern China.We currently have supermarkets, convience stores and department stores in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang Province and will be in Jilin Province early next year.The weather this winter was minus 37 degrees centigrade.
Personal note I have 7 children, 15 grandchildren. I only get to see all of them once a year when I return for 2 weeks vacation.
