Alan's Story
I was born and raised in Don Mills and went to Fenside Drive Public School from 1968 to 1974. My teachers were:
Grade 1 Miss Stouts
Grade 2 Mrs. Gillespe (formally Miss Stouts)
Grade 3 Mrs. Suzki
Grade 4 Mrs. Herbert
Grade 5 Mr. Burnett (who was replace by Mr. Bardow)
Grade 6 Mr. Swift
My all-time favourite teacher was Mr. Swift. He was an amazing teacher and made classes very interesting. He would involved all the students in many hands-on projects. Most notable were the art classes (involving making hand puppets and plays), gym classes, science and year-end camping trips with the class. He had in-class pets which the students would take care of. Iggy the Iguana was our pet...a 3 foot long live lizzard. Previous years had a behive in the classroom with live honey bees, and gerbils in another year.

nview Height Junior High School from 1974 to 1977. There were a myriad of teachers and they were all very good. I remember the principal (Mr. Salsbury, to be replaced by Mr. Lilly) and Vice Principal Mr. Bilson. Here I learned to play the trombone under the leadership of Band teacher Mrs. Leonard.
I then went to George S. Henry from 1977 to 1981. I continued to play trombone in Mr. Arnold's band class. Again all the teachers were very good. I was unsure what to do in terms of a career goal. However, I liked things mechanical and spent time building go-karts.
In 1981 I went to Ryerson and took Mechanical Engineering (four year degree), graduating in 1985. In 1987 to 1988 I went to Centennial College and took Aircraft Maintenance.
I now work at Bombardier as Technical Writer and Aircraft Mechanic.
