Alan's Story
Hi friends! After high school I married Nancy Hood (class of 70) in Sept 1970 and shortly thereafter won the draft lottery. I immediately enlisted in the Air Force and instead of being sent to Vietnam, was sent to Hawaii. Nancy and I spent almost seven years there. I finished my degree, got a commission and retired from the military in 1992. Nancy and I then moved to the mountains of east Tennessee where we make pottery for a living. After 15 years we finally built our dream house on a mountain top in 2007. Beautiful views,...Expand for more
and we love the four seasons.
We continue to grow our pottery business. We have sold to stores in all 50 states at one time or another. You may have seen coffee mugs with Grandparent Names on them. Chances are we made them. We also go to juried art and craft shows in the southeast. Being a 'mountain' potter, I play the part by having a big beard (although it no longer reaches my bellybutton), long hair, and have put on a lot of weight. I do all the wheel-throwing and Nancy does EVERYTHING else.
Let us hear from yall.
