Life
It's unbelievable how things change as we've gotten older.
Surprising how things you enjoyed when you were younger, you still enjoy as much or more when you get older. Almost thirty years ago I started sailing with a friend in his Catalina 22 and had planned on buying his boat. Things happened, children came along and sailing took a back seat in my life.
About six years ago an opportunity arose to buy a Catalina 22 and I couldn't pass it up. Then, almost three years ago I had the chance to buy an older Newport 30. Great boat! Started restoration on it and then moved onto it two years ago. Living on the water has been an incredible experience. ing I've backed off for a while so I can enjoy sailing her for the summer.
I've got two daughters, one who lives close by and the other in Eugene, Oregon. Last year they both had daughters just six weeks apart. Growing up in Humboldt County both of them have become strong environmentalists and enjoy the natural beauty of this area along with the cultural and community living here.
The past several years it was great to have the chance to raise them by myself and be around them as much as I was.
Our area is very rural and during the winter there have been times when all roads leading in have been closed because of large tree falls and/or landslides. For those of us that love it though you couldn't ask for a better placer to live.
