Albert's Story
Yeah. Let's see. High school. I wasn't active or outgoing. I know myself better now and really regret not making the most of those years. I really wish I had taken mechanical drawing. At the time I thought it was drudgery. I remember sleeping through Mr. Murphy's P.O.D. class for the whole year. To this day I have no idea what P.O.D. encapsulates. And he passed me!
I used to come to school early when it snowed, so I could do doughnuts in the parking lot with my '53 Studebaker.
I wish I had that car today!
Henry used my BSA 441 as his art project when I rode that to school on good days.
After Rogers, directionless, I followed Wendy to Amherst. I drove her and a friend in my Studebaker during a winter storm. The heater in my car didn't work. God!
They were both huddled together in the back seat trying to stay warm. From Newport to Amherst!
Fast forwarding... Got an apartment in Palmer, Mass., worked on VW's, Wendy dumped me, met Katie, protested the Vietnam war in the streets of DC, bummed around Cape Cod, moved out to Tucson, did leather crafting on Mt. Lemmon, married Katie, refurbished VW's, had two kids, answered an ad for cabinet installer, bought and sold a couple houses, lost everything in a summer in Northern California (being TOTALLY irrespons...Expand for more
ible), moved back to Tucson penniless, divorced Katie, time passed, one weekend in Mexico...met Janet.
A year later we were married. Three years later we had our beautiful daughter. Today, Erin is in her last year at Mizzou. Majoring in Sociology.
We've been married for 27 years.
I've been a licensed Cabinet Installation sub-contractor in California for 18 years and incorporated for the last three.
Pretty exciting stuff, huh?
I still love all kinds of motor sports. One day Dale Jr. will win the big one! I've had motorcycles, my BSA 441 in high school, a Honda 250 Elsinore, (the one that brought me Janet) a Suzuki RM 400, and a Harley Pan/Shovel.
I built and raced Rail buggies in the Tucson Sand Buggy Association, a partner and I ran a 13 second, 100 mph small block Chevy Vega at the Firebird 1/4 mile dragstrip in Phoenix, and I ran a street stock Chevy Malibu at Manzanita speedway.
Today I go a little slower in a Toyota truck I built especially for rock crawling.
I have a web site I post write ups about trail runs and build ups at Run and Play Motorsports dot com.
I told Debbi the other day I can't believe 40 years have passed since High School. I don't feel that much older. I do feel lucky to have made it this far, and am thankful for every day.
