Albert's Story

Life Learn more about me by visiting my website/ theroyalpiper.com. and sign my guestbook there and say hi. I am most proud of being a dad to my 7 year old son Griffin. He has made me see what's important in life and my wife Trish and I couldn't be happier. I've done some interesting things in the last few years. As a musician, I have toured with Rod Stewart which was quite ironic in some ways. I remember going to see him at the Garden in 1974 and sitting way back behind the stage where you could hardly see him, never dreaming I would ever be performing with him years later. I've completed on my own CD now and it has been well received. I did a remake of my cousin Billy Idol's hit "Dancing with Myself" on the CD and I play pipes in a rock band called The Shots at many clubs in NJ. As an actor, I have been fortunate to have appeared on numerous TV shows including West Wing, Third Watch, and in October 2006 I was featured on the ABC/TV soap opera One Life to Live. I was delighted to learn that this episode went on to win a Director's Guild of America award for best daytime serial. I am recently retired from the NYPD after 20 years of service. It is the greatest job in the world and I miss it a lot. Working in the South Bronx was quite a change coming from Leonia, but I feel I adapted well. There have been a lot of highs and lows in my career. The best was delivering a baby boy on Christmas morning in 1990. I often wonder where that child is...Expand for more
now, hopefully out of the mean streets of the South Bronx where he popped into my arms. I was thrilled to have provided bodyguard protection for Princess Diana and Mother Teresa during my career. My worst day was 9/11, when I watched up close as the towers came down, burying so many friends that I had known over the years on the job. In August of 2003, I was invited by Queen Elizabeth II to perform for her at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the summer residence of the Royal Family. My good friend is part of Her Majesty's inner circle, and he managed to obtain her approval. I am told I am the only American to have ever been granted permission to do this and needless to say, I was quite nervous when I played for the Royal Family at their table, all the while hoping not to make a glaring mistake, but the performance went very well. Later that evening I was introduced privately to Her Majesty and had a very nice 5 minute conversation with her. The Queen was very easy to talk to, just like talking to your Mom. I will always remember that evening, it ranks right up there with the birth of my son. These days I spend my time performing professionally, traveling all over the world. Recently I have been performing in Las Vegas, London, California, Istanbul, and even in good old Leonia playing the pipes for various events.
