Alexander's Story
After graduating from Peabody High School (1995) I attended the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) where I graduated with a B.A. with double majors in Cultural Anthropology and Latin American Studies (1999).
A couple of weeks before my graduation ceremony from Pitt, I moved to Los Angeles, California, where I have had the great fortune of working for social justice issues focused on community and labor advocacy, education and training, leadership development, and community and workforce development.
After five years (1999-2004) of working for social and economic justice, I decided to make a drastic change in my life and career. I decided to pursue my passion for adventure and travel for a few years.
My search for adventure lead me to joining the crew of the CBS reality show Survivor. This new venture took me to various places in Mexico, Central America, and the C...Expand for more
aribbean (2004-2008).
Working for the show provided me with an awesome lifetime adventure and opportunity to work, travel, explore, and volunteer as an ESL and computer/internet instructor for indigenous children in Central America. My travel adventures included exploring remote areas on a 4x4 and driving back and forth from Los Angeles to Central America on a number of occasions.
As of 2009, I am working for a non-profit agency developing and managing after-school programs for underserved and at-risk children at primary, middle, and secondary schools.
In May of 2010, I completed my graduate studies and graduated from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on Nonprofit Management.
My goal is to continue to pursue a career in public service either in government or in the nonprofit sector.
Cheers!
