Alice's Story

After graduation I went to Hartford, Conn. to visit my Father. He helped me get all the items I needed to enter the Convent, Sisters of Christian Charity. I was told by the Headmistress that I did not have a vocation for that life. My Dad died in 1960. I was very glad I spent that summer with him. In 1963 I decided to join the USMC. I had three Uncles who were in the Corps.I did not know anything about the Women Marines at the time. I found out fast. I will tell you about Boot Camp if you really want to know. While I was stationed at Quantico, I meet and married Joseph Parrish. He is from a small town close to the NC boarder. We lived on the farm and we have three Children. We divorced in 1980. I was a stay at home Mom and made all my clothes and my daughters. I became involved with several clubs in the Community and was President of two of them. This started my long career in Voluntary Services to the Community I moved to the Colonial Heights,VA area, which is north of the farm. My Son Michael Graduated from VATECK with a BA & MA in Horticulture & teaching. He is an Extention Agent for VATECK. In 1983 I meet my now husband Russ Dolbear. He collects Toy Trains and is deeply into the History and Archives of the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Rail Road. In fact we have a RF&P Red Caboose in our back yard. We own a 1956 T-Bird (Olive Green) and belong to a T-Bird Club. We are very active in the club and go on driving trips with them. I have been very active in the Women Marines Association. This is the only all female Veterans group. Those who retired or were Honorably discharged are members. I held several leadership rolls and was on the Board as the Area Director of Area 2. As of July 19,09 we bought a new home. It was a month of moving, repairing, cleaning and emptying a lot of boxes.
