Life Following high school, I attended CSUB and graduated with a B.A. in English. I had hopes of attending law school, but that didn't quite work out for me that year, so I planned to substitute teach and perhaps try law school the following year. Before the summer was over, I was in a terrible car accident which left me in a halo brace trying to mend my broken neck. 4 months later I had surgery and have never had a problem since. This experience left me looking to do something different with my life, but I wasn't sure what. I substitute taught for about 4 months before I started a job with Dedicated Dental Systems (DDS) in their Quality Assurance department. I worked there for three years. During that time, I was also teaching at San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) part-time. I ultimately left DDS to work for SJVC full-time. In 1997, I married Michael Abril and we moved into a house in Westchester. I remember going through this neighborhood often during the years we were in high school, but I never imagined I would live there. Well, I really enjoyed working at SJVC. I taught English and ethics.
