Alice's Story

Life A bio. That seems so intimidating. What do you write in a bio? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it an auto-bio anyway? And shouldn't I have accomplished some great thing or things in my life before I sit down to write my auto-biography? Well, I suppose I have stalled enough now. There is no turning back. I must write something. After graduating from high school at that gem of an institution Northern High I ended up at Coppin State. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do except for I had some vague idea about writing or being involved in TV or movie production. Coppin offered me a Presidential Scholarship and a grant. Since they were launching their new Media Arts program I decided to give it a try. I graduated from Coppin with a BS in English/Media Arts and entered the cruel world of job-hunting. After floundering around for a while I found a part-time job teaching pre-school. While it was not what I ever intended to do and I had no training in the art of teaching I did enjoy it. But working part time was definitely not paying the bills. I spotted a listing for an entry-level-marketing person at a local publishing company and I applied. Turns out the entry level marketing position was actually customer service. It was sitting in a room with a bunch of other suckers answering several 800 numbers and having people yell at me. But it was a full time job and there was something I really liked about the company. Fourteen years later (wow, I am old) I am still here. I am now a Vice President of Marketing. I love my job and because of all of its quirks I love the comanny I work for. In fact I honestly can't see myself working anywhere else. On the more personal side of things I am married to a wonderful man who happens to be a German citizen and who has made the huge sacrifice of leaving home to be with me. We own a house in Baltimore City that still needs work but that I love. He recently took a full time in house job at the same compnay I work for so we work inthe same building one floor apart which I love! Sadly, I have fallen out of touch with everyone from high school. I am still in touch with two friends from college. I'd love to hear from people from my past. I especially miss my friend Dana from college. So if you are out there give me a shout out. I'd love to catch up, talk about old ...Expand for more
times, and see what you have been up to with your photography. Oh and if you happen to be Mr. Flowers from Northern High School I want to thank you for being the only spot of sanity in my horrific high school experience. High School: Hated high school. The only good thing I can remember is that for some reason there was no lock on the door outside of the women's locker room so several times a week I would just leave early and wander home. Okay so I did go to high school with a number of fun creative and smart people...so it wasn't ALL bad. I remember playing a lot of Uno in home room and I remember how much clout you had if you had some Blowpops to share. I remember spending lunches in the library and getting into a fight with the librarian about the books we borrowed without signing them out because she was NEVER there to do it (my mother had to come up to the school for that one). I also remmber getting into a fight with my Honors English teacher Ms. Woody I think her name was (I called her Moose Woody...hey I was young...my wit had not yet fully developed..give me a break). Apparently I turned over a test she had placed on my desk face down to quickly and that earned me being tossed out of her class for the rest of the semester. Wow I seem to have been a rebel in High School...I never realized it. One funny thing to report. I was at the funeral home after my grandfather died (not the funny part) and my high school gym teacher walked in. Turns out he is "related" to me by marriage. The horror of it all. Best teacher was without a doubt the drama teacher Mr. Flowers. College: Loved it. I would be a professional student just wandering from one degree to the next if I could afford to. I went to Coppin State...I was a Media Arts/English major and spent most of my time hanging out down in the TV Studio or the professor's office area. I was able to produce and direct an episode of our campus TV show Coppin Express and I spent a lot of time going to campus events taping them for other episodes of the show. I always liked being behind the camera and thought one day I might do something in film or TV. I spent a lot of time with some really fun and creative people that I sadly have lost touch with since graduation. I hope to catch up with some of them someday and see where their lives have gone.
