Alice's Story
After WHS, I went to KCKCC for two years before finishing up at Emporia. Not really figuring out what to do in life, I got a degree in education. Teaching middle school was not my cup of tea, so I got out of teaching in 1977. After that, I worked several years for Social Security at the Mid America Program Service Center in Kansas City, MO.
I married John Trussell in 1980. We have two children, Jeanette and David. After moving from Prarie Village to Leavenworth to Frankfurt Germany, we settled in Manhattan KS in 1991. Jeanette married her high school sweetheart in 2005 and graduated from K-State in Chemical Engineering in 2006. She and her ChemE hubby both work in Houston now. Son David enlisted in the Air Force. He works on the hardware of security systems and is stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He just returned from 4 months in Iraq.

he mid 1990's. That was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I graduated from Emporia on a Saturday and started at K-State on the next Monday. I currently manage the branch engineering library that is housed within the College of Engineering. I love my job and the people I work with. It would take a lot to convince me to move to a different position. I wish I had looked at getting a library degree when I first finished college rather than going so long not deciding what to do.
John and I travel to see the kids and friends when we can. Both our jobs have given us opportunities to travel for work. Surprisingly, academic library work has given me an amazing number of opportunities to travel as I participate in national and international organizations.
If you are ever around Manhattan or come to K-State to visit. Look me up. Contact information is always online & current through the K-State library website.
