Alison's Story
6-30-23
I just wanted to post a short update. Living in Southern Oregon, living my best life. Headed back to school, single, loving so many moments of this journey, even the ones that don't seem loveable. That's really all for now. Get in touch if you want because life is short and we deserve to love and be loved!

So my life is still apparently about change (surprise!). I have been living in Arizona with my oldest son and his family since October of 2013. In Sept. of 2014, they suddenly found themselves without a daycare provider, and they asked me to become my grandsons' caregiver. I accepted, and that's what I've been doing ever since. As life has progressed, they've decided to move back to the Pacific NW to be closer to family, and I'm so happy about that as I've discovered I'm not really a desert girl - I'm much more comfortable with the ocean! The move is supposed to happen this summer (2015) and I'm thrilled!
I'm committed to caring for my grandsons as the idea of placing them with strangers is just not an option. The world at large has proven itself to be far too scary out there, and I can't think of a better way to spend my energy than invested in their well-being. Needless to say, I'm not getting bank-rich, LOL, but it sure does feel good to be able to give in such a meaningful way!
I've gotten to know some of the classmates I didn't really know in school very well, and that's been an amazing experience. I missed out back in the day!
(NEW 10-7-13) I will be updating my story soon.

ut change, and the most recent change is that I'm going back to school. Other than that, I'm still at home full-time, taking care of my 88 year old grandmother. Before that I was a medical assistant and medical transcriptionist, which I loved, and I still write poetry. I LOVE my life, even the difficult times. I embrace the best parts, and the rest sort of takes care of itself. Life with teenagers - amazing. Life as a single mom - YIKES!
Joe, my oldest, and his wife, are just on the verge of bringing my first grandchild into the world. OMG. A grandmother. I don't think I'm ready. LOL!!!
With regard to marriage, I don't seem quite as eager to embrace that as I once was, apparently. Plus, I don't think I'd want to change my last name. I picked it out so carefully!!! Bob and Doug would be proud!
Another big change in my life is that I've recently (since January of 2007) become a vegetarian. It's interesting, and healthy!! I'm learning how to prepare all sorts of delicious foods, my blood pressure is excellent and my cholesterol is perfect!
I'm nearing a cross-roads, an empty nest looms. In 2009, the triplets will be graduating. I still have no idea what I'm going to do with myself then. I feel both anxious and excited about whatever the future holds. But the freedom (from caretaking) on the horizon is enticing...
I see some old friends on the classmate list, but so much time has passed, I would be entirely reluctant to intrude. Time has a way of softening old memories. Still, I would definitely be open to reconnecting.
