Allan's Story

The 1942 movie classic, "It's A Wonderful Life" starring James Stewart has never been apropos; to be able to look back and see ourselves 52 years ago and to flash past our 50th reunion to our class picnic on October 20, celebrating our easing into our seventies. For me, the journey has been both wonderful and memorable - simply said it's GREAT to be around.. My wife Esther and I have had the joy of being married 45 years; the joy of having identical twin daughters born in Heidelberg, Germany; a seven year old granddaughter; and two grandsons, ages 2, and the other grandson is one month old. If you like to figure odds, for you folks steeped in statistics, try this: what are the odds of an child born in the 9th month of the year, on the 9th day of the mont, at 9am, weighing 9 pounds? I still remain active in the in the intelligence community as a national board member of InfraGard and a couple of university advisory boards. Other than that I consider myself RETIRED and walking daily, in the morning, with buds either on Bayshore Blvd (4.2 miles) or on Davis Islands (5 miles). As I reflect back, I have over 43 years of experience in the military and intelligence community, private industry, and higher education. Twenty-five of the years were spent as a commissioned officer in the Army, serving as an armor officer for several years, and for the remainder of my career as tactical and strategic intelligence officer with two tours in Vietnam and in Europe where I worked with all the NATO intelligence services and attaches, as well as with the Intelligence and Securi...Expand for more
ty Command and the Defense Intelligence Agency, plus a myriad of other assignments with the last four years in command of an intelligence organization with operations around the country.Beat up a little bit but if I had the opportunity to redo the past 43 years I wouldn't change a thing! My expertise includes Interned-based education, training and awareness, security management, all-source intelligence collection and analysis, diplomatic activities, and special operations. I continue to serve as a consultant to universities and community colleges across the U.S. where I assist in developing information security programs. I am a founding member of the Virginia Alliance for Secure Computers and Networks (VASCAN), the Maryland Alliance for Information Security Assurance (MAISA), and I had the honor of serving as a member of the Maryland Antiterrorism Advisory Council. Additionally I am a founding member of the national GOVSEC Board of Advisors and served as the GOVSEC 2003 and 2004 national chairman, and have conducted conferences in Bucharest, Romania, and Hong Kong. At the request of NSA, I developed a program on the security clearance process, levels of security, and polygraph for presentation to students, faculty, teachers, and staff at colleges, universities and high schools across the country. I has presented the program at institutions in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. When called apon I continue to serve as a spokesperson nationally and internationally on information assurance education, training, awareness, certification, and workforce development.
