Allan's Story
Susie, and I are living in Sacramento, California where I retired after finishing a 30 year combined career with the USAF and US Public Health Service. In San Francisco I was married in November 1963, to Roberta Sommerdorf and our daughter, Mary Aileen, was born in Dec 1964. Roberta died in an auto accident when we were stationed in Germany in 1966. Luke AFB near Phoenix was my next assignment then served in Vietnam with the 35th Combat Support Group, Phan Rang Air Base, 1968-69. Returned to Topeka, Kansas, Forbes AFB with a new wife, Susie. Susie, Mary and I moved to Ithaca, New York and Cornell University Johnson School of Management in 1974, I took my masters in Hospital and Health Service Administration and went to work as an officer in the US Public Health Service commissioned corps as Administrator for Ambulatory Care at the USPHS Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. alth Service where I was Special Assistant to the Area Director. We loved Albuquerque and had many opportunities to visit mom and dad in Winslow (Dr. H. S. Beckwith died in 1990, and mom, Mary Beckwith, died 2007, in Winslow). Next transfer was to the California Area Indian Health Service in Sacramento. I accompanied the Area Director as Special Assistant on the assignment. We decided to remain in Sacramento after retirement. When we left Albuquerque in 1982, Mary went to college at University of Southern California majoring in journalism and history. After graduation she went back to Albuquerque and worked for a public relations firm where she met her husband, Tim. Mary and Tim married in 1989 and made their home in Albuquerque. First grandson, Collin, graduated U Michigan Law School in May, 2015, with a JD and works for a law firm in Baltimore. Grandson Adam graduated at Loyola-Marymount in Los Angeles with a BA in Accounting and he is a CPA practicing in Los Angeles.
