Allen's Story
After Highschool I attended Arkansas State Teachers College at Conway, Arkansas. The University offered me a scholarship in mathmatics but I screwed around too long and could not get a room in a dorm. Actually, I was scared to go that far from home. I had never been far from home by then, not out of the county very far by myself. My brother had been to ASTC so I knew that I could go there on the little money that I had saved. So my first year of College cost me less than $500. The only date that I had that year at the college was one that Jackie Hawkins was nice enough to pay for. I asked her to go with me to my fraternity's Spring Formal. (My brother paid for the $3.00 monthly dues since it was his fraternity.) I met my wife, Nancy Jo Parker, at ASTC after I worked for the Rock Island for a year and returned to school in 1958. She and I were married in 1961 and I graduated in 1962. We had Jamie our oldest daughter on 8/19/62, our son, 'Trey' on 7/7/64, and Suzanne on 8/19/64. The girl's birthdays were not planned. Poor Nancy was in labor for 13 hours in an overcrowded hospital in Huntsville, Alabama for that to happen. In 1971 we moved from Huntsville to Seattle to continue to work for Boeing for the rest of our career. When Nancy died in 1999 my heart was broken and there was no reason to continue working. I am now looking up old acquaintances to say "Hello". I spend most of my time doing remodeling projects, in Bible study and church work. I time spend with my children and grandchildren when they are available.
