Allen's Story
After graduating fron HCHS, I attended
Northwestern Univerity in Evanston Il.
I graduated in 1965 with a BS in radio/Tv/Film. Married Jane Roberts in 1965 and went to work as a DJ at WPTR in Albany NY. Then got off the air and behind a desk as Assistant Program Director of WCFL in Chicago.
In 1968 I was hired by ABC Radio in New York to program the 7 FM radio stations they owned. I was made President of the ABC Owned FM Stations in 1970. We pioneered the album rock
music format on these stations in NY,
Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Houston,
San Francisco and Los Angeles.
In 1981, now with three children, Tom,
David and Allison, we moved to Winston-Salem NC and I ran 8 radio stations in
Winston-Salem, Oklahoma City, Pensacola, and Memphis.
In 1985 I joined another radio company as EVP and COO, with stations in Miami,
Philadelphia, Orlando, Cleveland, and
Naples/Ft. Myers.

ivorced in 1989, was single for
3 years, then married my current wife,
Beverly. I took on 2 wonderful step-children, Henry and Britton.
In 1991, I started my own radio group and bought stations in San Francisco,
Albuquerque and Las Vegas. Sold that
company in 1996 and started another radio company with stations in New Orleans, Vero Beach, and Las Vegas.I sold this company in 2001 and went to work for the company that bought it.
In 2005 I started my 3rd and final radio company, with stations in Roanoke/Lynchburg, Winchester and Fredericksburg VA.
I've been blessed with three wonderful grandchildren: Bennett (6), Kate (3), Beckham (2 ), and John (4 mo.).
Life's been a combination of hard work, lots of fun, some bad times, but
mainly lots of very good times.
I have fond memories of growing up in
Haines City and stay in touch with lots of old (and I mean "old") classmates from HCHS.
