Allison's Story

College I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BSIT in March 2005 after 4 years of working on my major and attending Ventura College for my general education. I hated high school, but really enjoyed college. What a contrast between the two. I made the National Deans List, and just recently was notified that I have made the selection for the International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Technology in China for May 2006. Stoked? You bet! I'll be travelling to Beijing, Quingdao, Suzhou, and Shanghai for 14 days, and then it's off to Tibet for three days. Finally I have done something note worthy in my life, and not just working at a dead end job. Been there; done that! Workplace After high school I worked for Semtech Corporation in Newbury Park. Semtech is the leading supplier of mixed signal and analog semiconductors. At Semtech I worked in the Burn In (Life Testing) department for about seven years; during that time I performed reliability testing, accetance testing, high voltage testing, and environmental testing. I left Semtech and went to work for Polycore RF, also in Newbury Park; where I assembled Radio Frequency Transistors. I was also responcible for creating kits for production and assebling data packets for tracebility. I also performed environmental testing on each unit, i.e. hermetic seal, centifical force, and temperature cycling. Once the lots were completed I was in charge of packing and shipping the finished product to customers. After being laid off from Polycore I went back to work for Semtech, and was placed in the Qulaity Assurance Test lab; where I performed more environmental testing, i.e. moisture, salt spray, solderability, flameabilit...Expand for more
y, temperature cycling, thermal impedence, etc. By 1991 I was promoted to Planner where I planned diodes through the Burn In department. I scheduled High Temp Life and Operational Life tests through all Burn In ovens and bays. After Desert Storm Semtech no longer concentrated on Military product, and I was placed in the production area to test product, and later to make glass for the purpose of hermetic seal. Making glass was the most interesting job that I had at Semtech. I was responcible for weighing and mixing chemicals that were packed in to platinum crucibles, and fired in a 1300 degree celcius furnace. After firing the glass it was ground into a fine powder that was mixed with water for application purposes. I evaluated the glass by applying it to diodes and performing electrical and environmental testing. Once the lot passed all testing it was bottled and I performed specific gravity, and adjusted the viscosity for production use. I was eventually promoted to production supervisor over diode assembly and had 32 employees to oversee until the production area was moved offshore in 2001. Since that time I have attended college at the University of Phoenix and obtained my Bachelors degree in Information Technology, and am planning to continue my eduaction with a Masters degree. During my college attendance I have been a math tutor at Ventura College, and even assisted Semtech with assembling Transient Voltage Suppressors. I began working for the County of Ventura as an Elections Officer in August, where I hired and trained poll workers for the 2005 Election. I am currently working for the County of Ventura Elections Division doing street, district, and precinct research.
