Allison's Story
Life has had a lot more unpleasant surprises than I ever expected. I got married at 19, and we're still married. I didn't make much of myself. I'm facing a real challenge now at a stage in life when I thought my life would be settled. I don't know if I'll rise to it or not. I'll try.... I've always had a lot of curiosity, wanted to understand everything. That's a work in progress. But my interests include the people I've known, and especially the people I've known for many years or at different ages. That's why I joined this site. I must admit that reconnecting with people can be more disappointing than I expected. I'm in no way the only one who's found life a struggle at times. bitters." Believing that was part of my view that alleviating suffering--one's own, as well as others--was one of the most important goals in life. But I have found that the most compassionate people have suffered. Though I think life is hard for everybody. Isn't there some adage about a burden shared? But so many people (not including the ones who over-expose themselves on "reality" TV, I mean real people) seem very closed. Secretive. Uncommunicative. Discretion can be the better part of valor, but I think this refusal to open up is often misguided. My third sentence is a key admission. I'm against lies, against the secrecy that's motivated by fear. A scary song runs thru my head: Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think. I'm determined to be as happy as I can be, in spite of, well, a lot. And I'll share more with anyone who reciprocates.
