I rested the summer after graduation from high school and then went onto Oakland Community College, on a grant, in the fall. I hoped I could go to regular college afterward to be a kindergarten teacher but, when I had gone to Community College for just two terms, I decided that my dad's dream (he had passed away in the second week of my senior year of high school) of me becoming a secretary was what I also wanted. By there being a lack of money, I went to Pontiac Business Institute for just a couple of years; enough to get the courses I thought I might need to be able to realize my dream. Took a couple of short-term positions around time I was finishing up at the Institute. After this, I applied to the City of Pontiac, and started working January of 1973. After a couple of pregnancies that resulted in two children, I decided with the third pregnancy that I'd quit for a little while and was off for 5 years raising the three of them (one boy and two girls). Let me add here that we were always leery that one pregnancy could result in more than one child. He thought there were twins in his family. I also have a stepdaughter from his first marriage. She was around fairly close by until she was about 16 and then moved away. Enjoyed every minute with the kids. He was on the Board of a Food Cooperative, during the time I was off work. This was nice. Was able to be with my mom as well. (Remember I grew up an only child. His family has always lived out of state.) Right around this time, I decided to get into Tuesday Musicale and was placed in the first soprano section. I stayed on for about two years and enjoyed every minute of it.
