Alonzo's Story
Hello, if you don't remember who I am, here's a little reminder. I hung out at the Art Dept. most of the time and was on the football team (4 yrs) and basketball team (freshmen yr). I didn't do very much to really stand out, didn't care to anyway.
I went to Fort Lewis College when they were still the Raiders. I majored in Fine Arts and minored in Secondary Education. Wanted to be a famous artist and be the best teacher to all students. I'm still an artist and I can teach people drawing and painting but haven't done it for a while. I left Fort Lewis after 3 years. Wanted to take a break for a year but I never went back to get a degree. I worked at restaurants, bars and motels for a couple years in Durango and Mesa Verde National Park after college.
I moved back to Sanostee, New Mexico in 1987 after being in a motorcycle accident. During the time I was recuperating I found out my parents needed help at home and with a small cattle operation. I started training horses for the family then the public just to make money. Business was great. I met a lady, Kathy, in 1991 and after a couple years married her. We have one Daughter, Victoria. Which we have a very healthy and rambunctious grandson, Dustin.
I worked for City Market in Shiprock, New Mexico for a couple years. during that time my Horse Training Business died off, had marriage problems & got divorced, quit my job at City Market and went home to Sanoste...Expand for more

In 2000 I ran for public office position of District Grazing Committee in Sanostee and I have been with that group since then. I work with Farmers and Ranchers, I mostly work on natural resource issues with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Nation Department of Agriculture, Northern Navajo Soil and Water Conservation District, Navajo Nation Farm Boards, Navajo Nation Department of Resource Enforcement, Navajo Nation Fish & Wildlife and the Sanostee Chapter community. As if that wasn't enough I am commissioned as a Deputy Livestock Inspector. I do brand inspections for livestock owners, hauling permits, and on recovered stolen livestock.
I am now in a good place after all these years. I had an alcohol problem all my life. I was in and out of legal problems for 25 years due to alcohol. The last 12 years have been a struggle. I've been working hard at not having a drinking problem. I am happy it does not run my life like it used to in the past.
I'm still an artist but I don't do it very much anymore. I have a lot of thumbnail drawings on the margins of documents and my notebooks. But I look forward to a time I will not have very much to do. Then I will concentrate on my artwork. A bit too busy with my job and being with my family now.
I don't have photos to post at this time but when I find some, ones that aren't embarrassing anyway, I'll include them.Well, that's all I have for now. Have a GREAT day!
