Alysia's Story
Life
Married, living in Scotland and have two baby boys! I graduated from UCLA in 2000. I now live very far away. In Aberdeen, Scotland! I met a guy from here when I was studying in England for the summer. Fell in love and came back here to do my Masters degree. Got married in 2002 and now we are proud parents! My husband's name is Glen, he use to work in oil, but now owns his own publishing business and is also a fellow writer. He is really a wonderful person and I just could not be any happier! Our little boys are called Robert and Lloyd and they are botha a bundle of joy!
I now work at the university that I did my masters at. I had and still have the opportunity to do my Ph.D here at the University of Aberdeen, but I decided that right now a career and family are much more important. Once I figure out how life with a toddler and a baby will be while working full time as well I will eventually plan to study part time I think. But I am in no rush. Since I work at the University, it will be totally free! A very good perk indeed! I am in charge of Admissions for the Medical School here. The University has been around since 1498 and is one of the top schools in the United Kingdom. I really love my job and the people I work with. I also love living in Scotland! There is a good community of African people here in Aberdeen as well as many Americans since Aberdeen is the oil capital of ...Expand for more
Europe. Scottish people are very friendly and the racial tension that is always felt in the States is not felt here. I plan to live in the UK permenately, but I hope 2 return home as often as I can and I will probably return to live for a few years at least to live so that my children can experience first hand their African American heritage.
I am also still writing poetry and fiction. I have mangaged to get some of my work published, but nothing major yet. I hope to have a novel or a collection of poems published within the next few years! Please write and say hello I would love to keep in contact with as many old friends as possible since I live so far away! Would especially love to hear from the old NJROTC gang!
I have had a few complications with pregnancy that have left me disabled, a condition called SPD- Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. I can now only walk short distances with the aid of crutches, use a wheelchair for longer distances and must take 19 pain killers a day. No regrets, though, as I was blessed with two lovely sons. I may regain some of my mobility through surgery, and am exploring that now with an orthopedic surgeion- although it is only a 50% chance of success. I could use your prayers! I miss home, but am unable to fly long distances just now. But when I do come home, I will post an annoucement here as I would love to see as many old friends as possible.
