Marc's Story
Life
My Spouse
I met my wife at college. A friend arranged a blind date, even though I had seen her and liked the way she looked. Within two weeks, I asked her to marry me. It took her awhile to say yes. But, she did. We were married about a year and a half later, and have been married ever since (47 years!). She was a public school teacher for over 38 years. I was cabinet maker, a salesman, a baker, a youth director and a high school math for 20 years. We retired June 2011.
My Pets
We have rescued feral cats since the 1980s. At the present time we are feeding 7 cats. We have had as many as 18 cats. We have spent thousands of dollars on food and vet bills, but it is our passion. We are strong advocates for capture, spay or neuter, and release of feral cats. We believe this is the most effective way to reduce feral cat populations and improve the overall health of feral cat populations.
We have added a red heeler named Roscoe, and a rose eared pit named Mollie. both strays that showed up hungry.
My Kids
We managed to raise two lovely daughters. One is currently working in the Dallas area, is married and has given us a grandson named Connor. Connor graduated from Coppell High School this year is attending the University of North Texas, Denton.
The younger daughter is a practicing counseling psychologist in Wilmington, North Carolina. She and her fiance were supposed to be married in April, but, COVI...Expand for more
D19 has delayed the ceremony.
My Former Job
Teaching was the most challenging thing I have ever attempted. Trying to bring mathematics alive for kids who would rather be doing something else was a hard thing to do. But, each year I signed that contract and take on a whole new bunch of kids. The rewards are great, the pay and recognition could use some boosting! I am now retired from teaching having accomplished what I set out to accomplish. I leave mathematics teaching to the next generation of teachers.
Other
We have a passion for an old house (1880's) in Paris. We have lived in since 1974 and have periodically done major restoration projects. We are just completed the third (and last?) major restoration in 2005. Plumbing and interior cosmetic improvements. I am now busy with routine maintenance.
Since retiring I have been very busy working on Habitat for Humanity projects, currently working on my thirteenth house (as of Sept 2020), busy with projects surrounding our local church, and busy with our local chapter of Retired Teachers Association.
We continue to remain active in our church, Calvary United Methodist Church, where I am the sound technician, serve on the Worship committees and the United Methodist men's group.
I follow Linda around as she buys flaking and rusty treasures for the house and yard and for the Antiques fairs and sales during the year in Paris. Junking is in our blood.
