Amanda's Story
Life
Hey everyone!
I am currently living in Seattle, Washington. I recently bought my first house and am knee deep in coming up with a landscaping plan for my back yard! I moved out here 6 years ago and have loved every minute of it (even our big earthquake in 2001!) I am teaching second grade at an amazing school, will finish my Master's degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy in May, and am going to London this summer to celebrate my 30th birthday (can that really be coming up?!?!?!) I hope everyone is doing well! Feel free to drop me a note, I would love to hear from you!
School
I look back on my time at Moon with great fondness. I made some great friends, with whom I still keep in contact with. I still think that Mrs. Canan was one of the best teachers I had. She played a big part in my deciding to go into teaching. To this day, I still love Dante's Inferno, all because of her!
I think one of the best memories I will take away from high school was the Noel Ball my Junior year. I remember being in a tiny car with my date Chris, and 5 people crammed in the back of his mom's Mazda. We tried to ...Expand for more
get from the hotel to Eat N'Park going the back way. The only problem was that he did not know where he was going and we ended up going the wrong way down the road between Wendy's and Denny's!
Workplace
I hated every job I had in high school. I worked at Children's Palace as holiday help. I sat in the office answering the phones...for 8 hours a day. Thrift Drug was no better. I ended up making most of my money in high school by babysitting, something I was much more interested in doing.
During college I worked at Waldenbooks, a family tradition which I carried on after graduation. When I moved out to Seattle I began working at Borders. I became the Community Relations Coordinator, planning events and doing PR. After my entire position was phased out of the company, I decided it was time to go back to my true passion, teaching. I subbed for two years, trying to find a district and school that I loved. I have found an incredible home here at Dick Scobee Elementary teaching 2nd grade. I can't imagine doing anything else, other than that pipe dream of becoming a published author. But there is still time!
