Amy's Story

So, it's hard to know how far back to start in writing about myself. Hmmm, the best part of my life started when I moved to Austin when I was 24 yrs. old. That's when I started meditating and eating healthier, and doing Massage Therapy. The Marketing field that I got my BBA in just wasn't my cup of tea. I also started doing a dance form called Contact Improvisation, which is much too difficult for me to explain in to words here. I also met my husband, Ross around that time. He was teaching the dance class and also an electrical engineer at the time. Austin is where I finally connected up with people of like minds. We also participated in another regular dance event that included its own sort of dance community. When we came to the 10 Year Class Reunion we had just married and were off on a years rock climbing tour that ended with a 3 month stint in Thailand. After that we came back to Austin and continued to build our lives there. Ross renovated our dream house and I built up a successful massage practice. Then we had our amazing daughter, Isa, and something changed for us about staying in Austin. It definitely wasn't the strong connection with friends and family or Barton Springs or the dance, those hold deep in our hearts. We just felt a urge to fulfill our yearnings to live by the sea. We both shared this dream and something about the sweltering heat combined with mosquitos and fire ants and a little red headed wonder with pale skin, made us rethink our living situation. We literally made the decision on a family walk one night and never looked back. We acquired our perman...Expand for more
ent residency visas from the states and sold the house the cars and shipped a 20' container with all our other stuff over here to ChristChurch New Zealand. Yes, I know what a name for a city. Anyway we moved here sight unseen with a contact from a guy who had also moved here from Austin 5 yrs. prior. We stayed with him for a while why we did some looking around the south island. Surprisingly we settled here in Southshore, which is just by the sea on the outskirts of ChristChurch city. We never thought we'd resettle in a bigger city, this one only has 300,000 people, but is the largest city on the south island. But we did, and we love it! We've been here a little over a year and just experienced our first summer which included lots of body surfing and swimming. Our seasons are flipflopped so we are just now hunkering down for our second winter. I had wanted to make the 20 Year Reunion but airmiles didn't line up with the right dates so we will probably head back next year sometime. Isa will be 4 yrs. old by then and I'm hoping the flight will be easier. I'm building my massage practice here while Ross is taking a years leave of absence from work to spend more time with Isa and me and himself. Good on him, as they say here in kiwi land. We are not doing so much dance at the present, I have gotten more into pilates for now and am really benefitting and other than that and enjoying our walks along the beach, life is very simple and relatively quiet. As quiet as it can be with a very independent and free spirited almond colored hair dynamo like Isa. Life is as it should be, Blessed!
