Amy's Story

After I left high school, I spent a one year stint at the U of A and BOMBED at my classes! Attended a couple (like 4) of other colleges before I graduated, came back to Monticello, and married . John and I married and was married for 12 years. We had three children (the lights of my life!) and we shared his oldest son (Kim Watson's child, Philip). After we divorced, I moved to Searcy and began working for an investment firm, traveling, and supporting 40 offices. I did that for about 3 years, and then I settled in one office. I have quite a large number of clients who allow me the opportunity to manage their money. Okay! Now, those of you who knew me in high school. I would like a count? Who in the world would have thought that I would ever have thought that I would have become a money manager? Be honest now! I would have laughed my head off if anyone would have EVER suggested that I would be a financial advisor! I was very insecure in H.S. and shy. Those that thought I was snobby were SO wrong. I just had no self-confidence AT ALL. I did not find my second personality and self until after my divorce and I had to stare at my 3 little kids who depended on me! Now, shoot! I am ready...I spend my time on my 16 acre farm that I bought 3 years ago and the log house of my dreams. I have 2 registerd quarter horses, a white donkey we saved from a horribly mean man down the road from my house. The kids and I have 3 stray cats, a stray dog, and it is a working farm. Outside of managing my clients money, I love to hunt, hike, fish, and travel. Kim Watson and I are still great friends. Her hubby is gracious and she and I have hit vacation spots like Italy, Greece, and Turkey. I have taken trips with my kids to Turks and Caico's down in the Carribean, The Grand Caymans, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona, and the beaches of South Carolina. I just got back from Costa Rica and Nicaragua where my sister, Carrie, and I spent a great week exploring the rain forest and several remote beaches where we are known by the locals as the "super chicas" after we FLEW down zip lines like superwomen. Very cool! My parents own a condo in Nicaragua where we offer some support to a library foundation that provides books to 33 schools to teach spanish and english. These kids in the country-side rarely had books before our efforts. I elk and...Expand for more
deer hunt, and have a trip planned for Sept 2009 with my dad where we will bow hunt for elk in the Gila National Forrest. I just harvested a 7 pt buck in Drew County. My kids are the BOMB!!! My daughter, Lindsey, is 23, single, and too bright for her own good. Her photographic memory (like her dad's) is terrifying. She has 21 hours of college left with an Economics degree, with a minor in Spanish and Sociology. BUT, she has decided that she does not want to follow after mom into the financial world - says it bores her to tears! Yea right, she is not the one managing money in this market! So, she is wrestling with pursuing either a medical degree or a culinary arts degree! Go figure. Only 4 to 8 more years of college! Andy is 19, a soon to be father, and husband. He is employed with a pipeline company and loves his job. Patti Anne is 12 and just hit the 7th grade. She sits on the bench in basketball like her mom did. Now, I act like my dad and stay very ANGRY at the coaches!!! Yes, that is right - TEENAGERS UNTIL THE END OF TIME! Plus, grandbabies! I will never be without kids, ever!!!! Philip (Kim shares him with me) lives about 10 minutes from me. I adore his wife and his daughter! They are my kids too. Life is not perfect, but it is pretty grand for me. I am still single since the divorce in 1997. I decided to raise the kids without the added confusion of step parents, kids, grandparents, etc. I have many leadership roles within my firm. After I retire, my next dream is to do charitable and philanthropic work. I have been so fortunate to have the opportunities I have had in my life. I want to open some opportunities up to people who did not have the fortunes that I have. It is amazing what can be pulled out of a person with a tiny bit of help. I want to write children's books about grandparents (my paternal grandparents created an environment for me that are just prime for books) and now that there is SPELL CHECK and GRAMMER CHECK I might can pull it off. I also want to write books on success for women after divorce. Who knows! Lots of dreams, I will take them one at a time and see what rises to the top. I am excited to touch base with my old classmates and high school friends and acquantainces. DCHS and Monticello were some of the best years of my life! Always my love and best in life.....Amy
