Amy's Story

Welllllll, ok-- I've been resisting this. But nostalgia wins. But where to start? Tragedy first. My parents both died last year, some of you may remember them as being particularly interested in leading long, healthy lives. I guess it has to end somewhere. And it did, for them. I had managed to move back to the area first, which I'm very glad to have done. I'd been following an academic career around for a while, and am now happily tenured as a professor of art and architecture at Lehigh U in Bethlehem. After some time as an architect, I started designing and building furniture (odd stuff of my own imagining) and I now teach that, as well as basic design for architecture, art, and design students. I write for Woodwork Magazine and exhibit my work in galleries, and sometimes make pieces on commission....Expand for more
My husband, Charley Farrell, and I have been together for 22 years, now, completely amazing how quickly that all goes. We never had kids, but have two great shelties upon whom we've lavished all our parental urges. Charley is an architect, and a painter (of paintings), and a songwriter, guitarist, piano player, singer, you name it. I took up the fiddle again, a few years ago, and now play no classical music at all, but I play the fiddle and sing with a bunch of different bands, all kinds of music-- jazz, bluegrass, blues, rock, Irish, old-time, etc. (google "rhythm road," that's my primary band) I've found that music can really help in coping with the losses that topple you now and then. And it's so much fun when you get a great group together, especially improvising. Wish I'd known about this sooner.
