Amy's Story
Well, I can't believe it's been almost 20 years. It has been quite the journey in that time. After high school, I went to Texas A&M, along with quite a few from our class, although it is such a huge campus that I rarely saw them.
I graduated in 1993, with a B.A. in Theatre Arts. I went back to school at U.T. Tyler in 1995 and earned my Teacher's Certification for grades 1-8. I also married Brian that year. I graduated in 1997 and had Emily the same year, so I decided to stay home with her for 2 years before going to teach.
I taught in several districts and many different grades and subjects (my husband liked to change jobs - he's a golf pro and moved from several country clubs). I now teach 7th and 8th grade Theatre and 7th grade Reading at Moore MST Middle School here in Tyler and love it. I've made some great friends there.
The main changes in our lives is that both my husband and I became Christians in 1999 and now attend a great church, with loving and supportive friends that are not hypocritical and judgmental, like so many religions/churches sometimes tend to be and which kept me away from church for quite some time. l with colo-rectal cancer 4 1/2 years ago and almost was terminal, but we caught that in time. That was a real struggle, but our faith was strengthened and we persevered! Emily is the precious gem in our lives. She is very helpful, thoughtful, and truly an angel. She is the only one we'll be able to have, so I am so thankful that we are blessed with her. Next to my husband, she is my best friend. She attends Brook Hill in Bullard and is loving it! She is so much fun to watch grow and learn and be excited about life.
The biggest journey for me, besides becoming a Christian, will occur on Thursday, June 12, when I attend a 2-month Fitness camp, sort of like The Biggest Loser. Over the years, I have struggled with my weight, which has been difficult, as I never had a problem with that in high school, so this is my opportunity to get back to my old self, which I have missed for about 12 years. Wish me luck and please send words and prayers of encouragement.
I hope to hear from old friends and meet new ones as the reunion draws nearer. I can't wait to hear others' stories about your journey for the last 19 years. See you at the reunion. Email any time!
