Amy's Story
Life
I have three kids, ages 11, 9, and almost two. I've been married for seventeen years. I have been working at the post office in Marquette for over eight years. Yes, my dad still teaches, but he's at Adrian College, now.
The Bee Keepers Suit
As I am walking down the trail that my grandfather, brother Sean and I have walked so many times, I feel a mosquito land on my neck.
I remember the time my grandfather put on his bee keepers suit, safe from the swarms, and walked around in the yard....Expand for more
I'm not wearing any suit and a net of darkness slips over us, biting mosquitos like vampires wanting to drink blood as if it were soda pop.
My brother and I run, our grandfather standing there laughing. I laugh to myself, watch rabbits jump across the trail,
and notice a brown one with spots of white. I think to myself I haven't seen one like that since I was little
and we were on a trip to find a three-toed monster our grandfather always said ate children during the night.
